For Parents

At DUC, we value highly the special role parents play in the lives of students. It is important to us that you have confidence in the scholastic and human formation offered at DUC. We are certain you will find that our small class sizes and friendly bilingual environment provide a positive university experience. Being located in the heart of the Nation’s Capital offers opportunities to take courses at Carleton University, our affiliate, and also the possibility to cross-register for courses at the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University.

Academic Programs

Our programs offer a solid formation in philosophy and theology. DUC students receive a classical education, not just a degree. The B.Ph in Philosophy and Ph.D. in Theology are uniquely accredited programs in Canada. Through philosophical and theological reflection and dialogue, students enter into some of the most important discussions that have gone on through the centuries. Both Faculties have strong research and teaching components with world class scholars. For further information please view our program descriptions.

Employment Opportunities

The big question for students and parents alike when choosing a university is “What’s next? Where will I go from here?” At DUC, our holistic approach offers foundational skills that set students up for success in all walks of life. Employers are increasingly looking for the “well rounded” candidate: people who are trained to think critically, write effectively, solve problems and who have strong interpersonal skills. Articles outlining the opportunities available to students who pursue a degree in philosophy and theology can be found in our program descriptions. Our students succeed thanks to our focus on forming habits of academic, as well as human, excellence.

Bilingualism & Languages

DUC offers bilingual programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Administrative services are also provided in both official languages. Students are able to improve their skills in French and English and a host of other languages through language courses and specialized tutoring services. The study of Hebrew, Greek, Latin, German, French and English to gain a better understanding of the original text is deeply embedded in the philosophical and theological culture of the institution.

Catholic Heritage

We welcome students from all walks of life in a spirit of free enquiry and open discussion. The Dominican Tradition and life of the institution provide many opportunities for Catholic students to practice their faith, and for others to learn about and engage with the rich traditions of the Church. Throughout its history DUC has been deeply involved in ecumenism. As a Catholic institution, DUC offers students who are eager to practice their faith the opportunity to do so on a daily basis by joining Dominican brothers for prayer and Mass. Key Feast Days and special events at the university often involve the celebration of the Eucharist.

Financial Aid

DUC offers generous entrance scholarships. There are other forms of financial aid and support based on merit, need, or particular interests. Prospective students and parents are encouraged to discuss with our academic administrators various forms of financial assistance and the overall costs of a DUC university degree.
