Student Awards and Financial Aid

DUC is committed to supporting its students in achieving academic success. To that effect, the university aspires to provide students in financial need with assistance and guidance in accessing financial aid programs and scholarship opportunities in order to ensure that all students can complete their studies.

Financial Aid


DUC is recognized as a fully accredited institution by Canadian provincial governments, and as such, DUC students are eligible for provincial financial aid programs.

  • Ontario students are eligible for loans and grants from the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).
  • Quebec students are eligible for loans and grants from the Quebec Ministry of Education
  • Students coming from other provinces or territories should consult their provincial government websites for information regarding student assistance programs.

Bursaries for Postsecondary Studies in French as a Second Language


Pursuing postsecondary studies in French: Pourquoi pas? It's rewarding to be bilingual! The new Bursaries for Postsecondary Studies in French as a Second Language (FSL) Program aims at encouraging a greater number of English-speaking Canadians enrolled in the first year of a college or university program to perfect their bilingualism while studying in a field of interest. Students can receive $ 3,000 for the first year of a university program in French in Canada. 

Eligibility:  

  • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and at least 17 years old on the first day of class
  • Have English as the first official language spoken
  • Have completed their secondary school studies in an English-language institution and graduated from this institution
  • Provide a transcript certifying that they have taken French - language courses at high - school, college or university levels in Canada, for a minimum of two years
  • Be enrolled in the first year and full - time undergraduate university program at Dominican University College, and participate in at least 50% of their courses and related activities (placements and training activities in the community) in French

Note: Special consideration will be given to students facing financial challenges and those who come from under-represented groups.

DUC Foundation Grants


The DUC Foundation and its generous benefactors, religious communities, organizations and individuals are pleased to offer support to students in financial need.

Eligibility: Students who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program in the Faculties of Philosophy or Theology.

Application process: Students can apply for a DUC Foundation Grant after they have registered for their program in September. Please submit your completed application to the Office of the Registrar (Office 310).

Deadline for application:  no later than November 1, 2020, at 3:00 pm.

Graduate Scholarships


DUC graduate students who are eligible can apply to receive grants from external funding sources through the Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) program or the Social Sciences and Humanities Council (SSHRC). 

SSHRC Scholarships

Eligibility: For all scholarship and fellowship funding opportunities other than the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program and the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Canada. For detailed eligibility criteria, please refer to the individual descriptions.

Deadline for application:  Consult the specific funding opportunity description to confirm the application deadline, as well as all application criteria and regulations, policies and information related to the specific competition.

Ontario Graduate Scholarships 

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) are also available to both Masters and Doctoral candidates.

Eligibility: Students must be Canadian or permanent residents and demonstrate a strong academic performance at the undergraduate level.

Application process: Complete all required forms with supporting documentation and submit to the Office of the Registrar (Office 310).

Teaching and Research Assistant Positions


The faculties of philosophy and theology at DUC offer teaching or research assistant positions to graduates students who meet the required qualifications. Positions are offered at the discretion of the Deans of the faculties. The amount available for these positions is fixed at $1,800 per semester. Please consult with the Dean of your faculty if you are interested.
