DUC is proud of its diverse student community. We welcome students who have a variety of faiths, backgrounds, and cultures and come to us from diverse regions in Canada and the world. Our application process, like our education, is personalized. We consider applicants and their entire dossier - not just their grades.

The Admissions Committee uses a rolling application system. That means that applications can be submitted at any time during the year but these are evaluated in the order they are received. It is advisable (mandatory for international students) to apply before April 30th for the fall semester and August 31st for the winter semester in order to increase chances of admission.

Application Process at DUC

Please consider the following information before applying to a DUC program in Philosophy or Theology. Application conditions include, but are not limited to:

Prior Education
Candidates must hold a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS/CEGEP) (or equivalent) or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) (or equivalent) or a diploma in a relevant field.

Language Requirements
Candidates whose first language is not English or French must have show a minimum grade of 70% on their high school or post-secondary transcript. If IETLS or the equivalent language test has been completed, it can be included with the admission request.

If applying as a Mature Student
- Minimum required age of 25 years.
- Candidates must demonstrate an appropriate knowledge base.
- Candidates must have acquired relevant work experience (resumé or CV required).

Waiting Lists
If program quotas are met, admission may be conditional even if the candidate meets all admission requirements.

Meeting with the Faculty Dean
All candidates’ applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. A meeting with the Dean of the relevant Faculty may be required to determine final admission status. 

*For Students applying to a Program in Theology
A CV and a letter of intent explaining your interest in studying theology and in attending Dominican University College is required when applying for a program offered by the Faculty of Theology. In this letter, you must explain how the program fits in your academic background and what preparation (courses, parish volunteering, etc.) you have to start your studies in theology.

 


How To Apply

Thank you for your interest in Dominican University College and its programs. The information provided below will help you better understand the application process as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. We encourage you to learn about our requirements before you begin an application. If you have additional questions about how to apply, please do not hesitate to contact us.

 

Step 1 - Prepare Your Application Package

Before applying online, prepare your application package in advance. Follow these steps to ensure a complete application.

Step 2 - Original Transcript(s)

We require original transcripts. Please obtain these from your previous educational institutions, high school and if applicable, other universities. Mail these documents to the registrar’s office. Dominican University College. 96 Empress Ave. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. K1R 7G3.

Step 3 - Apply Online

To apply for a full-time or part-time program, complete and submit the online form through our portal, Dominicus. You will have the option to upload supporting documents. *Please upload a passport sized photo (PDF format).*Students applying to a program in theology must include a letter of intent in their application. Step 4 - Pay Processing Fee

Pay the $50 processing fee online, by mail, or in person. See our different payment options here. Once the payment is received, we will begin assessing your application. Please note that the processing fee is non-refundable.

Step 5 - Track Your Application

Once you submit your online application, you will be redirected to a payment page. *Notice and save your admission number. You will receive an email confirming your application. Should you not receive a confirmation email, check your Junk Mail folder. You will be able to track the status of your application online using a username and password. 

Step 6 - Assessment of Your Application

Once we have received all required documents, we will begin to assess your application. A decision is normally made within 2-4 weeks and notice will be sent to you by email and to your postal address.

Step 7 - Accept Your Offer of Admission

Last but not least, you must accept your offer of admission. An acceptance form will accompany your Offer of admission. Please fill out and sign the Acceptance form and return to DUC by email (registrar@dominicanu.ca) or by mail to The Registrar's Office.
